You can become a customer of Police Mutual if you are:

  • A serving Police Officer in the UK
  • A member of Police Staff, including PCSOs
  • A retired Police Officer or retired member of Police Staff
  • A family member of someone who is eligible

Exactly which family members are eligible to become Police Mutual customers?

Eligibility to become a Police Mutual customer extends beyond serving and retired Police Officers and Police Staff to include certain family members of an eligible Police employee.

You may be eligible if you are the:

  • Husband, wife or civil partner of a serving or retired Police employee

  • Child or grandchild of a serving or retired Police employee

  • Parent or parent-in-law of a serving or retired Police employee

  • Brother or sister of a serving or retired Police employee

  • Brother-in-law or sister-in-law of a serving or retired Police employee

  • Niece or nephew of a serving or retired Police employee

  • Widow or widower of a serving or retired Police employee

Eligibility is based on your relationship to a serving or retired Police employee and may vary depending on the product you are applying for.

I’m a Special Constable. Can I become a Police Mutual customer?

Yes, members of the Special Constabulary may be eligible to become Police Mutual customers.

As with all applicants, product availability will depend on individual eligibility checks.

I’m retired Police Staff or a retired Police Officer. Can I still become a customer?

Yes – retired Police Officers and retired Police Staff may still be eligible to become Police Mutual customers.

Depending on the product, you may be able to:

  • Take out new products

  • Continue with existing products

  • Access retirement-focused support

All applications remain subject to product terms and eligibility checks.

Does being eligible mean I can access every Police Mutual product?

No. While eligibility determines whether you may become a Police Mutual customer, each product has its own eligibility requirements.

These may include:

  • Age limits

  • UK residency

  • Health or financial information

Full eligibility checks are carried out during the application process.

What if I leave the police after becoming a Police Mutual customer?

If you leave the police after becoming a Police Mutual customer, this will not usually affect products you already hold.

In most cases:

  • Existing products can remain in place, subject to their terms and conditions

  • You can continue to receive support from Police Mutual
