You told us – your favourite TV detective

We asked you to tell us your favourite TV detective. Here's what you told us…

In the December issue of our newsletter, we asked you to tell us your favourite TV detective. Almost 400 of you took the time to vote in our poll and this is what you told us…

It seems the old-school ones are still the best. Detective Inspector Jack Regan from The Sweeney (1975-78) took almost 10% of the votes to achieve third place.

In second place was Detective Inspector Jack Frost (1992-2010) with nearly 19% of the votes.

And the winner is...

According to our poll, the number one TV detective was Detective Chief Inspector Gene Hunt from Life on Mars and Ashes to Ashes (2006-7; 2008-10), who scooped over 30% of the votes.

Luther, Poirot, Columbo, Morse and Foyle were mentioned by quite a few of you, while some of the less well-known suggestions (which we had to Google) included:

  • Commander Gideon ("Gideon's Way", 1965-66)
  • Inspector Montalbano ("Italy", 1999 - )
