Other things you should know

What type of mortgage can I have?

That will depend on your personal circumstances and one of our mortgage advisers will fully assess your situation. We can arrange for one of our mortgage advisers to speak to you about your options.

What rates do you offer?

We offer mortgages from the whole of the market and an adviser will be able to advise you of the best one for you.  We have a close relationship with the Police service and in many cases we can use our know-how to get you better deals than other mortgage providers.

I’ve got CCJs. I’ve heard that I will pay a higher rate. Is this right?

The rate that you pay depends on your personal circumstances and our advisers will be able to explain this to you.

I’m looking to buy a house – how much deposit will I need?

How much deposit you have can make a difference to the rates and payments so we can arrange for an adviser to discuss this with you.

What fees will I have to pay?

The service is free for existing customers of the Police Mutual Group. The fee payable for non-customers is £300, but this will be waived if you take out any Police Mutual Group product during the process.

Because I have missed mortgage payments, I can’t remortgage can I?

That may not be the case, as we search the whole of the mortgage market, we may be able to help you. One of our mortgage advisers will be able to assess this in more detail.

How long can I have a mortgage for?

Most lenders offer mortgages between 5 and 35 years, but this will depend on what is best for you and our mortgage advisers will help you to make that decision.

How do I make my payments?

Most lenders will insist that the mortgage payments are made by Direct Debit but usually on a day that suits you.

I have a secured loan will this stop me from remortgaging?

Not always, but it will be taken into account by the new lender. Our advisers will discuss this with you.

Will I get credit searched?

The lenders will conduct a credit search on you during their underwriting process; however we will make you aware of this closer to the time.

I’m not on the Voters Roll. Will this stop me from having a mortgage?

No, however some lenders may require a written explanation and proof of residency for the previous 2 years. Your mortgage adviser will let you know if this is the case.

I am already receiving my pension – can this income be used?

Yes it can, the lenders will take this into account. You will need to provide evidence of your income.
