An update on the financial markets
World stock markets have experienced one of their most
volatile quarters recorded.
Although Police Mutual cannot be immune from these
external factors, we have designed our investment strategy to seek
to protect the fund from the full effect of market falls. At
the same time we do not want to miss out on any recovery as it
comes.
Applying this approach during the last quarter has meant
that, whilst UK equities have fallen by over 14% and other equity
markets have been similar, the fund has lost only 6.7%.
Compared to the previous investment strategy this means the fund is
£5m better off.
We are prepared for this period of volatility continuing
for some time but have also used our capital strength to try and
position the assets to seek to gain from market rallies.
